About a year ago, Xbox came out with a beta version of their own game streaming service then called xCloud. It’s since been rebranded and bundled with Xbox’s massive Game Pass library, letting you play every game in the subscription on your phone or mobile device.
Today, Xbox announced customizable touch controls for Minecraft Dungeons allowing you to stream the game from the cloud to play without a controller. This was once impossible, as you couldn’t start any of the games in the beta without first pairing an Xbox One (or similar controller) to your device.
In the announcement video they showed semi-transparent on-screen controls, much like what you would see on a typical mobile game. What’s interesting here is that the controls are custom designed in the Minecraft aesthetic, meaning this feature was made specifically for Minecraft Dungeons. I do think we will see this feature come to other games if they are actually still playable without a controller.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate App, which includes game streaming in the subscription, launches tomorrow, September 15th, 2020. You can play all your favorite Game Pass games including Minecraft Dungeons, but if you plan on playing anything else, make sure to bring your controller.
